Audio Trimmer
EchoWave's free audio trimmer runs in your browser and shows your file as a waveform, so you can see exactly where to trim. Drag the handles to set a new start and end point, nudge them frame by frame, add a fade so nothing clicks or pops, and preview the result instantly. Upload MP3, WAV, M4A, or even a video file. Export your trimmed clip as an HD MP4 free, with a small watermark badge, and move to a paid plan for audio-only MP3, WAV and M4A exports.
Audio Trimmer Features
EchoWave's audio trimmer is used by podcasters, musicians, video editors and voice over artists around the world.
Trim audio online
Shorten the start and end without touching the middle
An audio trimmer does one job: it removes the excess before your audio starts and after it should end. If the problem is in the middle, an ad break, a cough, a tangent, that is a job for the audio cutter. Working with MP3s specifically? Try the MP3 cutter. And when a quick trim turns into a bigger project, the full audio editor has multi-track layering, speed controls and fades ready.

Why EchoWave
Everything a clean trim needs
Trimming is a simple job, so the tool around it should add precision, clean edges and a fast path to export.
-
An audio trimmer with frame accuracy
Zoom into the waveform and nudge the in and out points one frame at a time. The trim lands exactly where you set it, both in the live preview and in the exported file, so a breath or a pick scrape at the edge is easy to shave off.
-
Trim on a real waveform
Every clip on the timeline draws its waveform, so silence, breaths and downbeats are visible before you commit. You trim what you can see instead of guessing at timestamps and re-exporting until it feels right.
-
Fade in and fade out
A hard trim can start abruptly or leave a small click at the edit point. Add a short fade at either end to smooth the edges, then play it back instantly to check the result.
-
Snap your trim to the beat
Automatic beat detection lays a beat grid over the timeline, and trim points snap to it. That keeps loops tight and makes it easy to start a clip right on the downbeat, which is exactly what the ringtone maker workflow needs.
-
Export MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC
Every plan, including free, exports an HD MP4 with a small watermark badge. Audio-only formats come with paid plans: MP3 and M4A on Basic, WAV and FLAC on Pro, with bitrate controls throughout. Rendering happens on EchoWave's cloud servers, so an old laptop exports as fast as a new one.
-
Need to remove the middle instead?
Split the clip on either side of the unwanted section and delete the gap, all on the same timeline. If you need one long file broken into several smaller ones, the audio splitter is built for exactly that.
-
Record, then trim, in one place
EchoWave includes a voice recorder, screen recorder and webcam recorder, so you can capture a take and trim it the moment you stop recording. No exporting from one app and importing into another.
-
Ask Echo to make the trim
Echo, the assistant built into the editor, has 39 editing tools and can split, trim and move clips from a chat prompt. It saves a checkpoint before big changes, so one click reverts everything if you change your mind.
How it works
How to trim an audio file online
Four steps take you from raw file to trimmed export, all in the browser.
-
Upload your audio
Drag in an MP3, WAV or M4A, or a video file if the sound you want lives inside one. The file opens on the timeline with its waveform drawn out.
-
Drag the trim handles
Pull the left handle to your new start point and the right handle to your new end. Zoom into the waveform and nudge frame by frame for exact placement.
-
Fade and preview
Add a short fade in or fade out so the trim does not pop, then play the clip back and listen closely to both edges before you commit.
-
Export your trimmed file
Export an HD MP4 free with a small watermark badge, or pick audio-only MP3 or M4A on the Basic plan and WAV or FLAC on Pro. The cloud render farm does the work, so export speed does not depend on your device.
Everyday trims
What people trim audio for
-
Ringtone-length clips
Cut a chorus down to 30 seconds, fade the ending, and export M4A for an iPhone tone or MP3 for Android. Snap-to-beat keeps the loop from stumbling when it repeats.
-
Podcast intros and outros
Trim the dead air and false starts before your first word, and cut the ramble after your sign-off. Automatic silence removal can then tidy the pauses through the rest of the episode.
-
Voice memo cleanup
Phone memos usually open with three seconds of fumbling and end with a thumb hunting for the stop button. Trim both off before you send the memo to a client, drop it into a project, or archive it.
-
Music beds for video
Trim a track to match your footage, snap its start to a beat, and layer it under the video on the same multi-track timeline. No second app required.
-
Voice over timing
Trim recorded narration, or lines generated with the 63 AI voices, so each one lands exactly on its scene. Frame-level nudging makes half-second adjustments painless.
-
Lecture and interview quotes
Pull a two-minute quote out of a two-hour recording by trimming to the section you need. The waveform makes the start of each answer easy to spot.

Audio Trimmer FAQ
How do I trim an audio file online?
Upload the file to EchoWave, then drag the handles at either end of the clip to set a new start and end point. Zoom into the waveform to nudge them frame by frame, add a fade if you want a softer edge, and preview the result. When it sounds right, export as MP3, M4A, WAV or FLAC.
What is the difference between an audio trimmer and an audio cutter?
A trimmer shortens a file from the ends: you set a new start and a new end, and everything outside them goes. A cutter removes sections from the middle, like an ad break or a cough, and joins what remains. In practice the line blurs, since isolating a quote from the middle of a recording means trimming both ends around it. EchoWave does both on the same timeline, and there is a dedicated audio cutter page if the middle is your problem.
Is EchoWave's audio trimmer free to use?
Uploading, trimming, fading and previewing are all free, and you can export the finished trim as an HD MP4 with a small watermark badge and a short branded end card at no cost. Paid plans remove the badge and end card, add audio-only exports (MP3 and M4A on Basic, WAV and FLAC on Pro), and raise video output up to 4K.
Can I trim audio without losing quality?
The trim itself does not change the sound, but exporting produces a re-encoded file. To keep quality as high as possible, export WAV or FLAC on the Pro plan, since both are lossless formats. If you need MP3, the bitrate controls let you export at a high bitrate, where the difference is inaudible for most listeners.
How long should a ringtone be?
iPhones cap custom ringtones at 40 seconds, and most phones only ring for 20 to 30 seconds before voicemail picks up. Trimming to around 30 seconds is the safe target. Start the trim right at the hook of the song, since the opening seconds are all a caller ever hears.
What audio formats can I upload and export?
You can upload MP3, WAV, M4A and other common audio formats, plus MP4, MOV, WebM and AVI video files. Every plan, including free, exports an HD MP4 with a small watermark badge, useful if you want the trimmed audio delivered inside a video. Audio-only exports come with paid plans: MP3 and M4A on Basic, with WAV and FLAC on Pro.
Can I trim the audio from a video file?
Yes. Upload the video, trim it on the timeline the same way you would an audio file, and export MP3 or M4A to keep only the sound. It is a quick way to pull a song, a quote or a voice over out of an MP4.
Can I add a fade in or fade out after trimming?
Yes, and it is usually worth doing. A hard trim can start abruptly or leave a small click at the edit point, and a fade of even half a second smooths both problems. You can preview the fade instantly and adjust its length before exporting.
Can I trim audio on a phone or Chromebook?
EchoWave runs in any modern browser on Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebooks, and there are desktop apps for Mac and Windows if you prefer an installed program. There is no mobile app. Because rendering happens on EchoWave's cloud servers, a modest machine trims and exports as fast as an expensive one.
