Online MP3 Editor
This MP3 editor runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to configure. Upload an MP3, then trim it, cut sections out, join tracks, add fades, change speed from 0.25x to 4x, and shape volume with keyframes. Record a voice over on top, layer in sound effects, and export the result free as an HD MP4 with a waveform visualizer and a small watermark badge. Audio-only MP3, M4A and WAV exports come with paid plans. It works on Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebooks.

Edit MP3 online
An MP3 editor that does more than cut
Most online MP3 tools do one job. If you only need to slice a file, our MP3 cutter is quicker. This page is the full workbench: a multi-track timeline where you can arrange several files, fade between them, ride the volume, and re-record sections. It is the same engine behind our audio editor, tuned for the MP3 jobs people actually search for.

What it does
Everything an MP3 editor should handle
Eight tools you will actually use, all on one timeline.
-
Trim and cut with precision
Drag the clip edges to trim the start and end, or split anywhere on the timeline and delete the middle. Zoom into the waveform to land cuts exactly where a word or a beat ends. If trimming is all you need, the stripped-down audio trimmer gets it done with fewer clicks.
-
Join files and layer tracks
Drop several MP3s onto the timeline and the magnetic timeline snaps them end to end with no gaps. You can also stack tracks to layer narration over music, then crossfade between songs. For plain end-to-end merges, the dedicated audio joiner is the shortest path.
-
Fades and volume keyframes
Add a fade in or fade out of any length, or set volume keyframes to duck the music under a voice and bring it back up afterwards. Keyframes sit right on the clip, so you can see the volume curve against the waveform. Every change previews instantly, so you hear the exact mix before you export anything.
-
Change speed from 0.25x to 4x
Slow a recording down to transcribe it, or run a rambling section at double speed. Speed applies per clip, so one segment can play at 1.5x while everything around it stays at normal pace. It is a small thing that saves real time on lectures, meetings and language practice.
-
Record straight into the edit
Open the built-in voice recorder and record over your track without leaving the browser tab. If you would rather type the narration than read it aloud, 63 AI text-to-speech voices can generate it for you.
-
Edit spoken audio by transcript
For interviews, podcasts and voice memos, EchoWave transcribes the audio so you can cut by deleting words from the text. Filler words like ums and uhs, and long silences, can be removed automatically across the whole file.
-
The MP3 editor that exports more than MP3
Free accounts export the finished edit as an HD MP4 with a small watermark badge. Audio-only MP3 and M4A come with the Basic plan, and WAV and FLAC with Pro. Headed for a phone or a strict upload limit? The audio compressor shrinks the finished file further.
-
Turn the track into a video
EchoWave is a video editor at heart, so a finished MP3 can become an MP4 with one of 93 waveform and spectrum visualizer styles. Add cover art, a title and captions, and you have an audiogram. That is how podcast highlights end up on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
How it works
How to edit an MP3 file online
From upload to download in four steps, with nothing installed.
-
Upload your MP3
Drag the file into the editor or click to browse. WAV, M4A and other common audio formats work too, and you can add several files to the same project at once.
-
Cut, arrange and layer
Trim the ends, split out the sections you do not want, and drag clips into order. Stack a second track if you want music running under a voice.
-
Shape the sound
Add fades, set volume keyframes, change the speed of any clip, and drop in effects from the 30 built-in sound effect packs. Press play at any point to hear exactly what you will get.
-
Export and download
Render an HD MP4 with a visualizer free; it carries a small removable EchoWave watermark badge. Paid plans remove the badge and add audio-only MP3, M4A and WAV exports.
Made for
What people edit MP3s for
-
Podcast episodes
Cut the pre-show chatter, tighten the pauses, and fade the intro music under your voice. Transcript editing removes ums and uhs across a whole episode in one pass.
-
Ringtones and alerts
Trim the hook of a song to 30 seconds or less and export it clean. Android takes MP3 directly, and iPhones take an M4A renamed to M4R.
-
Lectures and meetings
Slow dense sections to 0.75x for note taking, or cut an hour of audio down to the ten minutes that matter. Automatic silence removal shortens recordings without touching the content.
-
Audiograms for social
Pair your best 60 seconds with a waveform visualizer and export vertical video for Reels, TikTok or Shorts. Auto-captions transcribe the speech with word-level timing.
-
Demos and mixtapes
Join takes end to end, fade between songs, and balance levels so no track jumps out. Automatic beat detection puts a snap-to-beat grid on the timeline for tight transitions.
-
Voice over tracks
Record narration, tidy the takes, and export a clean M4A for your video project. Or keep working in the same tab, since the full video editor is already open.

Online MP3 Editor FAQ
How do I edit an MP3 file?
Open the EchoWave editor, upload the MP3, and it appears on the timeline as a waveform. Trim the edges by dragging, split and delete unwanted sections, add fades or volume changes, then export. Everything runs in the browser, so the process is identical on Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebooks.
What is the best free MP3 editor?
It depends on the job. Audacity is the strongest free desktop option if you need effects like noise reduction and EQ. For quick edits with no install, EchoWave is free to edit, preview and export in the browser, with multi-track layering, fades, speed control and transcript editing. Free exports are HD MP4 with a small watermark badge; audio-only MP3 and WAV files come with paid plans.
Can I edit an MP3 without downloading software?
Yes. EchoWave runs entirely in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, and rendering happens on cloud servers rather than your machine. That means an old laptop or a school Chromebook handles long files fine, because your hardware never does the heavy processing. Desktop apps for Mac and Windows exist too, if you prefer a dedicated window over a browser tab.
Does editing an MP3 reduce its quality?
A little, potentially. MP3 is a lossy format, so any editor that decodes and re-encodes the file gives up a small amount of fidelity on export. Export at a high bitrate to keep the difference inaudible, and avoid re-exporting the same MP3 over and over. If you expect several rounds of edits, export WAV (available on Pro) between rounds so the loss never stacks.
Can Windows Media Player edit MP3 files?
Not really. Windows Media Player can change metadata such as the title, artist and album art, but it cannot trim or cut the audio itself without third-party plug-ins. On Windows the fastest route is a browser editor, since there is nothing to install and no codec packs to chase.
How do I increase the volume of an MP3?
Select the clip and raise its volume control, or use keyframes to lift only the quiet passages. You can preview the change instantly and export once the level sounds right. Go gently with very quiet recordings, because boosting them hard also raises the background noise underneath the voice. For a track that swings between loud and quiet, several small keyframe lifts sound more natural than one big boost.
How do I merge two MP3 files into one?
Upload both files and drag them onto the timeline; the magnetic timeline snaps them together with no gap between clips. Add a short crossfade if the join sounds abrupt, then export as a single MP3. Our audio joiner page covers plain end-to-end merges in three steps if that is all you need.
Can I make a ringtone from an MP3?
Yes. Trim the section you want down to 30 seconds or less and export it. Android phones accept MP3 ringtones as they are. iPhones expect the M4R format, which is simply an M4A file with a renamed extension, and EchoWave exports M4A directly. The ringtone maker page walks through the phone-specific steps.
Is the EchoWave MP3 editor free?
The editor is free to use: upload, edit, preview and export without paying and without a trial clock. Free exports render as an HD MP4 (up to 720p) with a small removable EchoWave watermark badge and a short branded end card. Paid plans remove both and add audio-only formats: MP3 and M4A on Basic, WAV and FLAC plus renders up to 4K on Pro.
