TikTok-native captions

Built-in captions transcribe. These captions perform.

EchoWave's TikTok caption generator turns your speech into the caption styles TikTok rewards: one-word pops, karaoke fills and bold outlined text, not the plain lines TikTok's built-in tool produces. Auto-transcription times every word, then a preset does the styling, with keyword highlighting and auto-emoji for the hand-edited look. Captions land inside TikTok's safe zone, above the bottom UI and clear of the right-rail buttons, and words per cue goes from 1 to 5 for the punchy single-word style. It all runs inside the TikTok video editor, on the same engine as our general caption generator, and exports burned in so every viewer sees the identical style.

What you get

The full TikTok caption kit

Transcription, styling, placement and export, tuned for one platform.

  • Auto Captions, Timed Per Word

Upload your TikTok and the ASR engine transcribes it with word-level timing in 50+ languages. That per-word precision is what makes pop and karaoke styles land exactly on the beat of your speech.

  • 170+ TikTok-Style Presets

Apply a complete look in one click: karaoke color fills, thick outlined block text, highlight pills on the active word, clean minimal lines. Every preset stays editable after you apply it, swap the font, colors and position freely.

  • The One-Word Pop, Built In

Set words per cue anywhere from 1 to 5. At 1, each word takes the screen alone, the punchy style TikTok runs on; at 3 to 5 you get a calmer subtitle read that still animates word by word.

  • 45 Word Animations

Choose how each word arrives: 20 reveal styles, 10 karaoke behaviors with progressive fills, staggered cascades, loops and simple fades, plus dimming for already-spoken words. The animated captions page breaks down every family in depth.

  • Safe-Zone Placement

Vertical presets place captions inside TikTok's safe zone: above the bottom caption-and-sound UI, clear of the like, comment and share rail. Working from a widescreen source? Resize it for TikTok first, then caption the 9:16 cut.

  • Keyword Highlights and Auto-Emoji

Smart captions color your key words in an accent shade and drop fitting emoji into the track automatically. Both are optional, and everything they add stays editable, so the result reads intentional, not auto-generated.

  • Fix Any Word, Keep the Timing

Review is fast: each cue is a row with its own play button. Fix a word, nudge timing in 0.1-second steps, snap a cue edge to the playhead, or add per-word emphasis where your delivery peaks.

  • Burned In, Identical Everywhere

Burned-in captions are part of the picture, so they display identically for every viewer on every device, and the same exported file posts to Reels and Shorts with the style fully intact. No platform re-render, no surprises.

How it works

How to generate TikTok captions

Four steps from raw clip to caption-ready TikTok.

  1. Upload Your Clip

Drag your clip into the EchoWave editor. Pick the 9:16 canvas preset, or let the canvas size itself from your footage, so caption placement matches what the feed will show.

  2. Auto-Generate the Captions

Open the captions tool and hit auto-generate. The AI listens once and writes every cue with word-level timing onto a dedicated caption track; language is auto-detected with a manual override.

  3. Pick a Preset, Set Words Per Cue

Apply a karaoke fill or bold-outline preset, set words per cue (1 for the one-word pop), and switch on keyword highlights or auto-emoji if the clip calls for them.

  4. Export 9:16 With Captions Burned In

Render the MP4 with captions baked into the frame, sized for TikTok. Post it, then reuse the exact same file on Reels and Shorts.

Who uses it

Made for the For You page

  • Storytime and Talking-Head Creators

Face-to-camera stories live or die on retention; one-word pops keep sound-off scrollers reading long enough to get hooked.

  • Podcast and Stream Clippers

Cut the best minute, caption it in the punchy one-word style, and the quote carries the clip even on mute.

  • TikTok Shop and Small Brands

Keyword highlighting puts the price, the benefit and the offer in an accent color muted browsers cannot miss.

  • Quick-Tip Educators

Step-by-step tips land harder when each step's key term pops on screen the instant it is spoken.

  • Cross-Posters

Burn captions in once, then ship the identical file to TikTok, Reels and Shorts; the style survives every platform.

  • Faceless and Voiceover Accounts

Bold captions over B-roll and a voiceover is a proven faceless format; assemble it end to end in the TikTok video maker.

TikTok captions FAQ

How do I add captions to a TikTok video?

Upload the clip to EchoWave's TikTok caption generator, click auto-generate, and the AI transcribes the speech with word-level timing. Pick a TikTok-style preset, karaoke fill, bold outline or one-word pop, set how many words show per cue, and drag the caption block wherever you want it. Export the 9:16 MP4 with the captions burned in and upload it to TikTok like any normal video. The whole flow takes a few minutes for a typical clip.

Why burn in captions instead of using TikTok's built-in captions?

Three reasons. Style: TikTok's native captions are plain text with minimal options, while burned-in captions can use karaoke fills, outlines, highlight pills and per-word animation. Consistency: native captions render differently depending on the viewer's device and settings, but burned-in captions are part of the video, so every viewer sees exactly what you designed. Cross-posting: the same burned-in file works on Reels, Shorts and anywhere else, while TikTok's captions stay on TikTok. The trade-off is that viewers cannot toggle burned-in captions off, so keep them clean and readable.

How do I get the one-word-at-a-time caption style?

Set words per cue to 1. Each word then appears alone, timed to the moment it is spoken, which is the punchy style all over TikTok. Pair it with a pop or reveal animation and a bold outlined font and it reads clearly even at arm's length. If one word feels too frantic for your pacing, try 2 or 3 words per cue: you keep the word-level animation with a slightly calmer rhythm.

Where should captions sit so TikTok's UI does not cover them?

Keep them in the vertical safe zone: above the bottom strip where TikTok draws the caption, sound and username UI, and clear of the right-hand rail with the like, comment and share buttons. Centered text sitting a little below the middle of the frame is the classic placement. EchoWave's vertical presets start captions inside that zone, and you can drag the block to fine-tune before exporting.

How accurate is the transcription, and can I edit it?

Accuracy depends on how clean the audio is; clear speech with little background noise transcribes very well. Every word is editable either way: the transcript editor shows each cue as a row with its own play button, so you can audit fast, fix a word, nudge cue timing in 0.1-second steps, or snap a cue edge to the playhead. Corrections keep their word timing, so the animation stays synced after you edit.

Can the captions include emojis?

Yes. The smart captions option adds fitting emoji into the caption track automatically, alongside keyword highlighting that colors the important words. Both are optional and everything they add is editable, so you can delete an emoji that misses the tone or move it to a different word. Used sparingly, emoji give auto-captions the hand-edited look TikTok viewers are used to.

Does it work for languages other than English?

Yes. Transcription supports 50+ languages with automatic language detection and a manual override. For reaching viewers in another language, translation covers 80+ languages with editable output, and a bilingual mode can show the translated line in the same caption box with shared timing. Right-to-left scripts like Arabic render correctly, including in karaoke styles. For a translation-first workflow, see the subtitle translator.

Is the TikTok caption generator free?

You can upload, transcribe, style and export for free with no credit card. Free exports carry a small EchoWave watermark and cap at 720p, which is fine for testing a style before committing. Paid plans remove the watermark and export at 1080p on Basic or up to 4K with 50/60fps on Pro, which is what you want for a clip you are actually posting.
