WEBM is a web format, and Apple software was never built to read it. Drop one into iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or QuickTime and it usually refuses to import. MOV is QuickTime's native container, so converting solves the problem at the source. EchoWave re-encodes the VP8 or VP9 video and Opus audio inside your WEBM into H.264 and AAC in a MOV file, free and right in your browser with no signup.

H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio
Typical size
Large, often bigger than MP4
Plays on

Best for:Recording and editing on Apple devices

Will it lose quality?

  • When the codecs already match MOV, the converter can change the container without re-encoding, so the picture stays identical.
  • When the video has to be re-encoded for MOV, a high bitrate keeps it visually close to the WebM.
  • Converting cannot add detail the WebM never had. The output is at best as good as the source.

Troubleshooting

If something looks off

The MOV will not play
Some players are picky about codecs. Try it in VLC, which opens almost anything, or convert again and let the converter re-encode the video.
The file got larger
A format change can shift the size, and re-encoding at a high bitrate adds overhead. Lower the bitrate or trim the clip for a smaller file.
Audio and video drift out of sync
Re-download the source and convert again. If a long recording drifts, splitting it into shorter pieces usually fixes the sync.

FAQ

WebM to MOV questions

Why will my WEBM not import into iMovie or Final Cut Pro?
Apple editing apps do not support the VP8 or VP9 video that WEBM uses, so iMovie and Final Cut Pro refuse to import it. Converting to MOV re-encodes the clip to H.264 inside QuickTime's own container, which both apps read without any extra plugins.
How do I convert WEBM to MOV?
Upload your WEBM, choose MOV as the output, and start the conversion. When it finishes, download the MOV or open it in the editor to trim or crop it first. There is no account to create and nothing to install.
Does WEBM to MOV work for QuickTime Player?
Yes. QuickTime Player cannot open most WEBM files because it does not support their codecs, but it plays MOV natively. After converting, the MOV opens with a double-click on any Mac with no extra software.
Will converting WEBM to MOV lose quality?
WEBM and MOV use different video codecs, so the picture is re-encoded rather than just rewrapped. A high bitrate keeps the MOV visually close to the WEBM, and converting cannot add detail that was not in the source, so the result is at best as good as the original.
Why is the MOV bigger than my WEBM?
WEBM uses VP9, an efficient codec, while a standard MOV uses H.264, so the MOV can come out larger for the same footage. Lower the bitrate in the estimator above or trim the clip if you need a smaller file.
Does the WEBM to MOV converter work on Mac and Windows?
Yes. It runs in any browser, so you can convert WEBM to MOV on macOS, Windows, Chromebook, and Linux. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
Is the WEBM to MOV converter free?
Yes. EchoWave converts WEBM to MOV with no signup, no file-count limit, no trial, and no watermark. Upload your video, convert it, and download the MOV from your browser.
Will the audio carry over to the MOV?
Yes. The Vorbis or Opus audio in your WEBM is re-encoded to AAC inside the MOV, which is the audio Apple apps expect. If a clip plays silent, re-download the source WEBM and convert it again.
